I realized that instead of a conventional IR blaster as suggested in the YouTube video, one could use a Harmony Hub from Logitech. (Port forwarding allows you to specify any valid and unused port number for the public side which then gets mapped by the router to the correct port number of the device inside your LAN.) Use a different port number on the public side so that it's not obvious what the real port number is on the computer inside your local area network. I would urge you when setting up the Port Forwarding on the router (or rooter :.So you could conceivably start the video on your Android (or other Chromecast-enabled VLC platforms) and then cast it to a Chromecast-enabled TV.
